JET Preservation carry out damp investigations to all manner of property. We have many years of experience in identify all damp defects and issues from rising damp to condensation.
We cover Rotherham and the surrounding districts such as Clifton, Goldthorpe, Wath, Mexborough, Swinton and Rawmarsh to name but a few.
We were instructed to call out to this property in Rawmarsh, Rotherham after the owners had redecorated, they noticed dark patches in the paint.
Our surveyor advised the owners that this was a simple case of rising damp.
Following the damp survey, a written report was issued to the client within 24 hours of the survey being carried out.
The client was impressed with how quickly the process had taken from the original enquiry to receiving the written report.
The recommendations were accepted quickly and booked in for the required works.
When treating rising damp, plaster should be removed as the plaster is contaminated with salts that will continue to absorb moisture from the atmosphere thus giving the walls a damp appearance.
The work took 1 day to treat the issue with rising damp and damp walls, we injected a damp proof course the masonry by drilling into the mortar bed. Following the injection, we installed a damp proof cream that creates a damp proof course to stop rising damp.
A chemical damp proof course was installed to the affected areas internally and externally using a thixotropic cream which is a water based and diffuses naturally into damp substrates and reacts to form a water-repellent silicone resin network. This network is permeable to water vapour which means the walls can “breathe” and dry out naturally.
We then installed a cavity drain membrane to the brickwork using fixing plugs.
Cavity drain membrane is a High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) product and has been designed to incorporate a plastic mesh which is welded to the surface of this dimpled sheeting membrane. Suitable as an impermeable damp proofing base for plaster or plasterboards.
Plasterboards were mechanically fixed to the plasterboards again using special fixings.
The walls were then plastered using standard board finish plaster by our team of skilled plasterers.
The existing skirting boards were reinstated at the client’s request.
