Whilst carrying out plastering works to an end terrace property in Barnsley our technicians discovered an issue with water ingress following the removal of the plaster.
Our technicians called one of our local surveyors in to investigate the issue.
Upon inspection it was apparent that water was seeping into the property through the old lead flashing around the chimney stack which was the original lead flashing and was well over 100 years old.
Normally this would be an easy fix by simply removing the old lead and replacing with new and making good.
However due to the location of the property and a single storey building next door safe access to the chimney was almost impossible without scaffolding.
The chimney was also very tall and due to age and movement it had began to lean and would require remedial works by means of masonry work, pointing and flaunching.
We gave the customer several options and after consideration is was deemed more prudent to simply remove the chimney in full whilst scaffold was in place to guarantee no further remedial works would ever be required.
Following instruction from our client we arranged the installation of scaffold to the property so that we could do the additional works alongside of the original works.
The chimney was taken down slowly and carefully brick by brick and was taken below the roof line.
The roof timbers were extended and new slate lats installed.
New slates were installed along with coping stones and new ridge tiles and the surrounding pointing made good.
All waste was removed from site using a skip.
